Last year Yoselyn received one of Lovie's Pearls first scholarship awards! We are so happy that she reapplied and will receive another scholarship for Fall 2022. Yoselyn will looking to pursue a career as a Medical Assistant. And we know that whatever path she takes, she Destined To Succeed!!! Here are a few captions from her initial letters of recommendation: Yoselyn wants to become someone her daughter can be proud of…she dedicated herself to school and we saw the hard work she put into her last year, being pregnant, returning a month after having her baby and still breastfeeding…her hard work and dedication made it possible to get closer to her dreams…she’s an obedient student…she is very enthusiastic to learn new things…she worked extremely hard to get into college… I have strong confidence she will succeed with flying colors! In Yoselyn’s essay she stated, “College was not part of my life plan until I had my daughter Isabel. She is now one and she gave me the motivation to continue school after graduating. She also helped my mental health in ways that were never imagined…once she was in my arms for the first time, I knew that college was not an option anymore, it was a necessity.” Yoselyn is the first in her family to attend college!
Gileanna is on schedule to graduate from Klein ISD this month and is planning to attend Lone Star College. Her extracurricular activities include swimming, and she works part-time jobs when she can. Here are a few captions from her letters of recommendation: Gileanna is a motivated student and tries very hard to set goals for herself and achieve them. When her grades were decreasing due to family demands, she prioritized her needs and goals and got back on track! Her mindset is to be the best version of herself and she truly wants to be an example for others. She is a perseverant student and mother who wishes to become the first in her family to go to college. She has expressed her desire to become a Nurse Assistant. In her essay Gileanna quoted Mother Theresa, “If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.” Now I realize that little by little I created my family with a lot of love and balance. My son is the most important person in my life, and I would love to give him the world. A higher education for me and my baby means creating a new family tradition and expectation.
Shavonda is on schedule to graduate from Klein ISD and will be attending Lone Star College in the fall. Her extracurricular activities include being a Poll Election Worker, as well as being a part of Two Lives Changed.
Her recommendations include: Shavonda is a kind, caring mother with the eagerness to learn and grow. She is outgoing, brave, enthusiastic and has a positive aspect of life. She works hard in everything she does, with confidence. She never gave up when the odds were against her. She strives for excellence and wants to succeed to make a better life for her and her son.
In Shavonda’s essay she stated, Finding out at 15 that I was pregnant was the worst nightmare, in my eyes. But one thing I never considered during this time was dropping out of school. Many people know teen moms as dropouts, or all sorts of horrible things, but I set out to beat those odds. I knew I had goals, dreams and vision, and I was intent to finish high school and move on to college. I’ve had bumps in the road and didn’t know if I could finish high school on time due to me moving from Louisiana. Yet I’m still not letting that stop me. I want to succeed and make everyone proud; myself, family, my son, and everyone that has helped me get to the point where I am today. I want to beat the odds! I deserve to give my son the best life I possibly can.
